TSF September Review

For our September meeting, The Social Fermenters switched up meeting locations and met at Dynasty Leesburg. This led to us meeting another Loudoun-based homebrew club, HOWL, and sharing some of our beers with them.

For our upcoming competition beers, Darrel brought out his dark English mild beer, "Sgain Dubh", and Jeremy brought his raspberry & blackberry "Nothing Ever Gose Wrong"

gose. Darrel will be competing in the 2024 Maryland Microbrewery and Homebrew Competition. Club president Brian plans on attending the festival on September 28th, which will feature an open judging of all submitted beers. If any other members are interested in joining, let us know! Jeremy's gose (and Eggie's belgian) will be competing in the Hoptoberfest 2024 event in North Carolina.

The club also discussed our potential 2025 competition schedule, and confirmed that we intend on submitting beers to competitions more often in the upcoming year. If you're a member who has been wanting more critical feedback than what our members have the ability to provide, these competitions are for you! Most of them will provide brewers with detailed, concise notes on what your homebrew is doing wrong, and also what you are doing right.

After we met, we were invited to crash HOWL's (Homebrewers of Western Loudoun) September meeting, where we got to try a few of their different beers. Between the rye IPA, the weizenbock, and some of the other beers we tried, it was a great tasting menu, and HOWL also provided feedback for us. Keep an eye out for more potential homebrew club mixer opportunities.

More to follow about October's schedule in the next week or so!

Cheers,
